Bridget Hilton was a remarkable, inspiring and loved lady who spent her life encouraging people to play music for fun. She died of a brain tumour on 14th July 2018, after a very short illness.
A teacher by profession, Bridget believed in the power of music to bring people together and change lives for the better. She supported generations of people, young and old, to embrace music, get stuck in and enjoy it!
After her death, her family decided to create a positive legacy that would open up new opportunities for more people to enjoy making music in West Cumbria. So, with the support of Cumbria Community Foundation, they created 'Bridget's Magical Music Pot', a grant-giving legacy fund that will help Bridget’s kindness and generosity live on.
What will it do?
We envisage grants being made by Cumbria Community Foundation to a wide range of community groups and musicians to help them enjoy and progress in what they do.
Who will benefit?
Just as Bridget did, we want to encourage people of all ages and abilities in West Cumbria. By that we mean any age, any instrument, any ability!
The fund will pay for the little extras that make a big difference, for example:
• Inspirational trips to hear professional musicians play
