Patrick’s Pedal-Powered European Adventure

This Summer, Cumbria Community Foundation trustee Patrick Boggon is pulling on his bike shorts as he takes on the first of an epic cycling challenge through Europe to celebrate his 60th birthday.

Covering a staggering 3000 kilometres on two wheels the journey begins on the 13th July in the arctic circle and ends in Northern Germany in September. Yes, Scandinavia really is that long!

This isn’t just a belated mid-life crisis, it’s a cycle challenge to raise £5,000 for the Sharing Fund. It will help support people and community groups across Cumbria who are facing real challenges – whether it’s hardship, isolation, or just needing a bit of help to get back on their feet.

In addition, the £5000 target will be matched £ for £ by an anonymous donor doubling the impact of donations.

Patrick says “Enjoying an adventure while trying to put something back into my community seems like a good way of marking my 60th birthday. Cumbria has been a wonderful home to me and my daughters for the last 30 years and we have been lucky enough to get the help we needed to navigate the rocky periods of life when they came along. It seems a good idea to put something back into the county that has given me so much and help others in the future.”

Expect sore legs, questionable European snacks, and possibly a few wrong turns – but all for a fantastic cause.

Please support Patrick’s journey and donate to the Sharing Fund today – every penny will go towards making life a little brighter for those in need across our county.
